The Kimberley region in the north west of Western Australia is the home of some of Australia’s most remote tourism regions. It is alive with spectacular and unique wildlife species, fantastic scenery, comfortable accommodation, excellent tours and coastal cruising and fishing that is to die for. The commercial center of the Kimberly is the town of Broome, which lies on the Indian Ocean front and provides the commercial hub for the Tourist industry in the area. Here you will find excellent accommodation in hotels, apartments and resorts and a host of tours that can take you to visit the best attractions that lie in the Kimberley region. Broome has many attractions in its own right. It is the birthplace of the pearling industry and produces some of the best cultured pearls in the world. The Argyle diamond mine that currently produces around one third of the world’s diamonds is located in the Kimberley as is the Ord River irrigation project that provides vast amounts of fresh water for local agricultural projects.

Many tourists come to the Kimberley by campervan and motorhome and the larger companies that hire out these vehicles have depots in Broome. A large number of tourists pick up vehicles in Darwin, after flying into Australia and visit the attractions of the Northern Territory like Kakadu National Park and Ayers Rock. They then travel on to Western Australia, entering through Kunnanurra in the northern part of the Kimberley. Attractions like the Bungle Bungle ranges and the Ord River irrigation scheme and Lake Argyle can be found in this region. As they travel south places like Wyndham, Derby and Broome are usually on the agenda and from Broome most stay for a while and tour out from Broome either along the coast on some of the magnificent cruises or inland on organised tours and flights to see the best of the natural tourist attractions.

The best time to visit the Kimberley is during the dry season from May through until November. The weather is cooler and les humid and most of the unmade roads in the region are open for four wheel drive vehicles. During the wet season cyclonic storms are common and heavy rain can block many of the remote roads to some of the best tourist attractions. The Kimberley is also very easy to access with regular flights to Broome from Perth and Darwin. Broome also has plenty of excellent accommodation in hotels, resorts, apartments, backpacker hostels or caravan parks. Some of the great natural destinations that you should try to see during your stay include The Bungle Bungle ranges with their unique beehive sandstone rock formations, The Ord River and Lake Argyle, Geike Gorge, Mitchell Falls, Windjana Gorge and the Wolff Creek meteorite crater. Cruises along the Kimberly coast can take you to explore otherwise inaccessible places of great beauty like the Prince Regent River, the Buccaneer Archipelago King Sound and the Mitchell River nature reserve.

If you are planning a visit to Australia for your next holiday, you will definitely be selling yourself short if you don’t visit the spectacular Kimberley region.
